Introduction

CatNap values your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use our app, website, and related services.

Information We Collect

1. Cat Photos & Recognition Data

When you scan your cat to unlock apps, photos are sent to our AI providers (Anthropic Claude and OpenAI as a fallback) for cat detection and identity matching. These providers process the image to verify it contains a real cat and matches your enrolled cat. Cat "sticker" images (isolated cat cutouts) may be uploaded to Firebase Storage for leaderboard features if you opt in.

2. Screen Time Data

We use Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls) to block and unblock apps. This data stays on your device and is managed by iOS. We do not have access to which specific apps you block—only that blocking is active.

3. Account Information

If you create an account (optional), we collect your email address and username for leaderboard features and account recovery.

4. Leaderboard Data

If you opt into leaderboards, we store your username, cat name, and aggregated unlock statistics (time blocked, unlock count). Cat sticker images on leaderboards are uploaded only with your consent.

5. CatKey Collar Data (Hardware)

If you purchase a CatKey Collar, we store collar registration data including your cat's name, your contact information (for Lost Pet mode), and a unique collar identifier. This data is used to display your cat's profile when the collar is scanned.

6. Device Information

Device type, operating system version, and anonymous usage analytics to improve app performance.

How We Use Your Information

1. To provide and improve app functionality (blocking, unlocking, tracking).

2. To display your cat on leaderboards (with your consent).

3. To enable Lost Pet mode for CatKey Collar owners.

4. To process subscriptions and in-app purchases.

5. To send important service updates (you can opt out of marketing).

6. To improve app performance through anonymous analytics.

Data Sharing and Security

  • We do not sell your data.
  • • Screen Time data (which apps you block) stays on your device and is never uploaded.
  • • Data is shared only with essential service providers:

Anthropic (Claude AI): Cat photos are sent for detection and identity matching when you scan to unlock. Photos are processed and not stored by Anthropic.

OpenAI (GPT-4o): Used as a fallback AI provider when Claude is unavailable. Same privacy protections apply.

Firebase (Google): Account authentication, leaderboard data, cat sticker images, and collar registration storage.

RevenueCat: Subscription and purchase management.

Superwall: Paywall presentation and A/B testing.

Vercel Analytics: Anonymous website performance metrics.

Apple: Screen Time API, App Store purchases, and Sign in with Apple.

All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information.

Lost Pet Mode (CatKey Collar)

If you enable Lost Pet mode for your CatKey Collar:

  • • Your contact information (name, phone, email) will be displayed publicly when someone scans the collar.
  • • You can toggle this on/off at any time from the app.
  • • When Lost Pet mode is OFF, only your cat's name is shown.
  • • The smart tag on the collar contains only a URL pointer—no personal data is stored on the physical tag.

We do NOT sell your personal information. We have not sold personal information in the past 12 months and do not plan to.

Data Retention

  • Cat photos: Sent to AI providers only during scanning. Not permanently stored by AI providers. Sticker images may be uploaded to Firebase if you opt into leaderboards.
  • Account data: Retained until you delete your account.
  • Leaderboard data: Retained while you participate. Can be deleted on request.
  • Collar data: Retained while collar is registered. Can be deleted on request.
  • Analytics: Aggregated and anonymized after 24 months.

Children's Privacy

CatNap is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and updating the "Last Updated" date.
